Relocation announced

That's right, folks. We are MOVING!

It's all very exciting. See, for nearly a year we've been stuck in Vegas. It's been hard in lots of ways. It's hot, it's weird, it's VEGAS for crying out loud. Basically, we just kept saying, "we can not live here! We hate it here!"

So, when it became apparent that Derek's internship was indeed going to only be an internship and not long-term employment, we knew we had better get job-searching. And job-search we did. Derek applied for, oh, over 50 jobs. And the darned economy kept getting in the way. Job after job would send Derek a lovely form letter saying, "Thanks but due to current economic events this position is no longer available." Sigh.

It got very frustrating. We were really confused. What in the world were we supposed to do? Derek needed a job! We looked in practically every state in the nation. NOTHING was working out. NOTHING.

We knew we had to move but where was a mystery. People would ask and we'd say, "We don't know, but we're leaving!" We were very certain at least that we were going. Alaska? Nope, Minnesota? Nope, California? Nope. (You get the idea.)

Still, Derek sent out applications with absolutely no response in his favor. Then, one day, he got a bite, WAYYYY out on the east coast. At first, it seemed perfect, but as time wore on, it became clear that it was not the right job for him. Sigh. Frustration was REALLY starting to get out of control. We were praying and praying and just desperately trying to figure out where in the heck we were supposed to be going.

Then.

A revelation. An answer.

We heeded. And suddenly, job interviews come, two, three, four then five. Amazing.

Derek is hired, once, twice, three times! HALLEJUAH! JOBS! INCOME! NO LIVING IN OUR VAN DOWN BY THE RIVER!

It is truly a blessing to have prayer and inspiration in our lives.

Derek has accepted a job as a clinical director of a new company working with foster kids. It is a great opportunity.

But wait! I have not yet revealed the WHERE in all of this.

It is just so super awesome, I just forgot to mention it.

We are relocating to,

are you ready? Are you holding your breath? Are you imaging a drum roll? Because I am.

Yup, that's right. As soon as we quit trying to LEAVE, jobs came from all directions, every single one of them here in Vegas.

Good grief, God has a sense of humor, I tell ya.

So, we're moving across town to Northwest Las Vegas (we're in south central now) out of the ghetto, and into a nice quiet neighborhood on the very edge of Vegas. It's very exciting. We're going to learn to love it here. (I can not believe I am admitting that.) It will very near all the things that are important: work, Walmart, In-N-Out Burger and church. What more do we need, really? (I have grown VERY VERY fond of In-N-Out. If you ask for your fries "well done" it is out of this world...)

And in celebration, I started taking doula clients again and just got my first one since last year. Hiatus was good and now it's time to get a-going again. My midwife has agreed to train me as a midwife's assistant, so good things are happening all around.

If I haven't mentioned it lately, I'll say it again, life is sweet. It really truly is.

I'm still sad you didn't decide to come waaaaaaaaay out here to the east coast. We'll have to find a middle ground at our parents' house for a trip together.
We miss you guys and wish I could take that job here so we have some money.

I was so not expecting that! Hehe. I guess you guys are supposed to stay in Vegas...

Thank goodness you get to move though. And I'm glad you finally got some sense about In-N-Out. I'm so jealous that you get to live near one.

Congratulations on the job!!!

Yay Morgan! I'm so glad you guys know where you're going to be (even if it isn't where you expected!). I think the worst part about Derek's position had to be not knowing where you guys were going to end up, so I'm glad that's settled. I'm also sooo glad to hear that you are doula-ing again, I know that's something you really enjoy (and let me tell you, those moms you will help are sure lucky to have you!). Great news!

Darn...I was hoping it was Skagway, Alaska! Hahaha...

But seriously...how exciting for you guys...Vegas! A new place to learn to get to know and love... hahaha...

Out of the ghetto! It will be an entirely NEW situation...no more drugs in the playground, etc! :-)

Congrats, and congrats on the doula gig up and going, again!

You are so funny! Good luck with the move! Congrats to Derek. The Clinical Director of Foster Care is such an important job. Foster Care, in my opinion, is the hardest work with children. Foster Care NEEDS good people like Derek!

Yay! I was just thinking --wait, they can't move, we haven't visited them in Vegas yet! Thanks for giving us some more time. We'll get there, I promise.
(Oh, and congratulations Derek!!)

YAY!?! Sounds like a great job and it's wonderful that you'll have a place to plant your roots. A different part of the city could, and probably will, change everything for you. And just think...you're still close to the temple!

Hooray! I'm so glad he has a new job! And I'm still holding out hope that someday you will be relocating to CO! A new place, new job and new doula client are all good though...even if they are in Vegas!
