I Sure Have My Hands Full

I read a story, many years ago, on the internet about a woman who was snuggling her baby in a church meeting. An older woman came up to her and asked, "Is this your first?"

The mother laughed and said, "No, it's my 11th, but it's my first 'Hayden'."

As a young mother to just one, that story deeply impressed me, especially since I couldn't imagine loving anyone the same or as much as I loved my one and only Henry.

And now, as a mother of four, I can attest to the truth of it: each baby is worth loving as much as the first.

Because each baby is a person. As Dr. Suess mused, "A person's a person, not matter how small!"  A person and a child of God. He knows their name. And He loves them like that mother loved her 11th baby. As an individual.

I only pray to make sure my children each know of my (and their daddy's) individual love for them, exactly as they are, regardless of whether they are first or fourth, second or third.

I also read recently of a woman receiving a lot of crap from friends and family for having her THIRD baby (mind-boggling!).

In an effort to put it in perspective, her father said to her, "You will never regret having another child."

I don't know, but I think...I hope it's true.

That I will never regret having another child.

And I will love our fifth baby as deeply and fully as I love my first, second, third and fourth.

We are so thankful to have been blessed with the opportunity to make room for another little one.

I know people will judge us. I know people will scoff.

I'm not sayin' 20 babies are in our future. But I will have the babies meant for our family.

Right now? That means we're expecting our newest mid-August.

Because yes, my hands are full.

And I wouldn't have it any other way.

You're a brave woman - congratulations to your family! Sometimes I look at my life and think of how crazy it is, and then I think about how crazy I am for sometimes feeling baby hungry(!?!) and Brock's only 9 months. :)

Congrats Morgan! Best wishes for an easy pregnancy for you. I have found that another baby just increases the amount of love in a home.

Well said! Congrats Morgan (and family)! So, do you feel like this is boy #5 or maybe girl #1? :)

Yeah for the impending arrival of Squishy the newest! I got tons of flack from acquaintances and strangers for every pregnancy after my second. People are noisy and opinionated. And then there was the hair stylist who sat across from ours (where our whole family has had haircuts since I was expecting #3). She struggled mightily with fertility and when she saw me walk in expecting #5, she just wanted to rub up against me, hoping my fertility would rub off on her. And I was so grateful for the blessing, the trust the Lord had in us to send us five beautiful, squirrely, crazy babies. Congratulations!

So happy for you!! And, thank you for writing this just the way you did. I only have one... and Hubby and I are hoping for another one soon -and I've really wondered how it can be possible to love a second as much as I love the first. I know love expands us, I've just wondered HOW. And I love the mom that says, "This is my first Hayden." *sigh* thanks for this. And again, congrats!

"Are they all yours?" hahaha that is something my Mom got asked all the time, of course she had 8, so maybe you can put off that question for a few more children. =) I think its great! Congratulations

I read this quote on pinterest that said, "if you think my hands are full, you should see my heart!" it's perfect for those looks and judgments you get in the store when youve got quite a few young ones clinging to you. I love it! And congrats...I think this is the best news ever! So happy for you and your family! Love ya Morgan!
